Time

I´m not a fan of wearing wristwatches, they tend to twist around and end up on the wrong side of my arm, and most of the days I don´t wear a clock at all - thus being a terrible model to my young students.

The last year or so, I´ve developed a slight passion for these little fellas, though, small turnip watches (correct me if my English dictionary is wrong here... TURNIP watch??). These are more in my taste than wristwatches, they are out of the way in a pocket when I don´t need them.

The right one is broken, and I just found out today that it would cost me three times the price of the clock to fix it. I said I would think about it... I hate it when things I love to use break down. I have one more with a lid on it, but it´s nowhere near as beautiful as this one, and as I´m still feeling sulky about this favorite of mine, I refuse to use the other one.

This drawing is an EDM challenge, #109 - Draw a clock you have around your house. I bought a new pen the other day, thought I´d give it a try on the clocks. I used these pens a lot a few years back and kind of forgot about them. It´s a Faber Castell technical pen. It doesn´t beat the Lamy in smoothness and ease of use, but they aren´t really in the same competition. This is a completely different thing. Nice, as a fresh change for a while.

The drawing is 13 x 6 cm, Faber Castell drawing ink on a sketchbook page.

These are beautiful drawings!

Just to help you a little with the terms (if I may): clocks are timepieces you see on a building, or on the street (like a lamp post with a clock instead of a lamp), you also see them in your home on the wall, on the bedside table and on appliances or on your computer. Timepieces you wear on your body are 'watches'. This particular style you drew, is a 'Pocket Watch'. The kind you wear on your arm is a 'Wristwatch' - which everybody calls a 'watch' for short. The kind you wear around your neck on a chain is called 'Pendant Watch'.

I've always called them pocket watches too, but I sort of like 'turnip watch!' These are such nice drawings, Nina - simple, elegant - beautiful.

Beautiful watches Nina, I have two of my great grandfatheres, but I've never thoght to draw them. And I loved the last lot of life drawings, the line seemed so evocative I never even missed the shading. Your figures are beautiful.

I love your watch drawing. I didn't think you'd ever switch from your Lamy pen (I bought one because you and others raved about them) and now you used my favorites. I have used the FC tech pens since buying a couple of them on a discount/discountinued rack at my college art store. I find they clog a LOT less than rapidographs, especially when they don't get used as often as they should.

Lovely drawing. It fits the style of watch perfectly.

Wonderful drawings--they really look like reflective metal and the shape and dimensions are just perfect. I've never heard of a turnip watch. I had a cat I named turnip because he was the same color and had about as much intelligence as a turnip.
