Stormy skies

Did two quick watercolor/ink sketches of the view from our kitchen window tonight. There´s a strong wind blowing, and dark purple-grey clouds are moving fast across the sky. My tiny sketches don´t make the scenery any justice, but I had to give it a try. I find skies and clouds extremely difficult to capture in watercolours, but they have promised this weather will stay on for a while, so I guess I´ll get plenty of practice!

Oh, and this is the first drawing in my new sketchbook.

15 x 21 cm, Lamy Safari, Noodler´s Lexington grey and watercolours on Arches satin watercolour paper.

Lovely colours; doesn't look like you find it difficult!

nice stuff! i really like this style, the colourful sky and the colourless pen buildings, i think i will have to copy this style, it's really beautiful, inspiring (but i'll have to wait until october, because we won't have any interesting clouds here in the CA valley for quite some time, just boring blue skies)

Very nice. I also love the one posted previously. You have such a nice touch with the color and ink.

I'm in awe. It would take me a couple years to do the sketch for some of your complicated paintings! (Especially the ones you call "quick"--RIGHT!) - Barbara

Amazing! I would never guess you find them difficult, these remind me of one of my favourites, a sunset you painted on holiday (if I remember correctly)

Justice or no - I really like the view from your windows.

These are SO pretty- the granulation in the blue areas is positively yummy. I really liked that you allowed the surrounding buildings to support the dramatic sky, instead of trying to compete with it. Great approach.

wonderful colors, and wonderful style to keep color only in the sky. the difficulties sure don't show!

Gorgeous effects and skies. Really stunning. I'm curious about the "satin" paper in your new sketchbook. Is that a hot-pressed paper? I haven't seen an Arches sketchbook with that shape and paper before. It looks very appealing.
