After the storm

The whole eastern part of Sweden had a snow storm last night, and it kept snowing most of the day today. Everything sounds muffled outside, the gray gloom of autumn suddenly turned bright white and everything is so beautiful. And of course, since this is Stockholm, the traffic is total chaos.

The first drawing is the view from my office at work, suddenly a very aesthetic and clean image. The second is the view from our kitchen window a little later in the afternoon. You´ve got to love winter when it shows itself from it´s best like this. After the storm, that is.

15 x 10,5 cm, Lamy Safari with Noodler´s Polar black ink and Faber Castell coloured pencils on some crappy brown paper.

I'll try again---didn't go through the first time---both sketches (works of art) are wonderful and warm even if it is cold. Spot on techniques, choice of color and design. I love them !

Snow! How wonderful, and your art is so warm and cheerful for a winter day. Wish we would have some snow here, but it is rare in our part of Texas. When I was growing up, I thought it would be so neat to get snowbound in our cozy little library.
One of my great-grandmothers came from Jonkepping to Texas, but that was back in about 1878.

I agree with Pete..."One person's 'crappy brown paper' is another one's treasure" LOL...These are stunning Nina...real treasures!

...I remember well the magic of the first snows back in the midwest...I miss them a lot at times like these...a beautiful capture...the brown paper adds so much! :)

Spectacular! I love snow and you captured the best of freshly fallen snow. The area of light is a special touch....

These are both beautiful! I especially like the trees in the snow. And the 'crappy brown paper' is perfect!

These are my absolute favorites of all that I've seen you do over the years---and, as you might guess, that's saying a LOT! That second one captures soft light in darkness so well that I'm filled with admiration and envy. Sublime, Nina.

Oh Nina, I despise winter, except when I see it like this. Both theses sketches are lovely, but the night scene is my absolute favorite.

Love these, Nina! I'm with Sarah about the street light. Love snow at night. Anxiously awaiting our snow in central US. We'll have our share, too.

This is almost unimaginable for a Southern Europe natural but the images you show are really beautiful.

These are both just great! Love the effect of that glowing street lamp, and how it casts a light on the surroundings.

Nina, your sketches are lovely. that is just the way I like to see snow, beautifully drawn,so that I can admire from afar. Now I remember why I moved to Florida (sub-tropical climate)

I really like the trees - so serene! Snow is alien to me - I've never even seen it properly - but I love looking at it's effects. Thanks!

I love that you describe it as "crappy brown paper" - it was the neutral paper choice that really caught my attention. I love it.

I love both of them but the second one has something really magical about it :)

Adore your work and have really enjoyed your weekly sketchbook. As for these on scrappy brown paper, stunningly unique and the light on the wall in the second one is an inspiration. Needless to say I followed the MARUMAN X project (via Anita) - awesome works from you all.
