Hiding inside

The weather is extremely grey in Stockholm right now, with a drizzling rain making it impossible to draw outside. I sat in a café yesterday, and the view out the windows was so dreary I drew the coffee cup instead. The coffee turned cold before I remembered to drink it, I was a bit caught up in the drawing...

10 x 14,5 cm, Lamy Safari with Noodler´s Polar black ink, and gouache on crappy brown paper (because I forgot my real sketchbook at home - can you believe that?!).

I really love the look of the paper you used--maybe it was fate to forget the sketchbook---that blue really socks it!

It is grey and wet here too - longing for some sunshine. I love the picture - the blue in the background brings promise of a sunny sky, eventually ...

I too like the paper and the combination of blue with brown! Our weather right now is cold and snowy, about 0F/-20C earlier this am!

'morning Nina,
Love the cup but completely agree that cold and clear beats grey and overcast handsdown. I've got a skiff of snow to clear off the car before heading to work but I'm ok with that as we've had a good amount of the cold, clear mornings here on the west coast.(Canada)

Oh cold coffee, been there a few times myself Nina, caught up in my sketching only to forget about the main reason I entered the cafe...For a coffee!
Great sketch.

I love your use of white gouache on the mid-tone brown of the paper, crappy as that paper may be! It is a beautiful sketch and one can see from the background that you were dreaming of blue skies ...

What a lovely crisp blue. But the drawing doesn't look cold at all. I really like all of the drawings on your page - a nice style.

I actually like drawing coffee cups when I am in cafes. I have a whole sketchbook of nothing but coffee cups and beverages from when I go to cafes with friends.

I think you did a fabulous job of this. The blue goes well with browns.

Super, as usual, Nina! Such a shiny, shiny spoon, too!!! You made me want to go out and get coffee NOW!

Oh I am in the same situation, winter can be so gray - Love this sketch and must look inside myself for sketches too.

It is beautiful even on crappy brown paper!

Cold coffee is one of the occupational hazards of drawing in cafes. Order two cups; draw one and drink the other!

Lovely drawing.
