Runaway eye

Oops, another self portrait! I sat very close to the mirror here, drawing myself slightly from underneath, and only afterwards did I see that the left eye ended up in the wrong place. I like the drawing anyway, mainly because of the technique. I discovered that Staedtler triplus fineliners are very fun to dissolve with water. The colours turn into crazily intense hues and once dried you can keep drawing on the washes.

12.5 x 15.5 cm, Staedtler triplus fineliners and water on Fabriano Artistico hot press paper.

Both of the recent self-portraits are wonderful. Love the line quality and the layers in this one especially.

I agree. Both are GREAT. I really like this last one best though... The colors are what really draws me into this one. The layering ... well, just everything.

It's clear both portraits are of the same person. Interesting perspective. Great use of materials, too. And color.

Often, the small "anatomical errors" create something of private individual and of very interesting in a drawing, it is the case in that one. Very beautiful self-portrait.

I love your work and have learned a lot from looking at your postings. I was surpised to see the latest but I love it! I have not seen you use intense colour. I was really interested because I was thinking about doing something all in monochromatic tones and I was wondering how I would do it. This is a likely avenue now! Thanks for sharing.....

This is an intense portrait which is emphasized even more by the color and that eye. Self portraits tend to a directness you don't see in other paintings.

I really like it and considering the previous one, it's obviously a likeness of you.

So interesting to see the different techniques and the results of each. Your perspective must've been very tricky for this one in particular! Wonderful--the color is so rich and dramatic.
