Every day in May no. 27

A single tree study is all I did today. I think it turned out quite ok. It´s been a fantastic summer´s day today, hot and sunny, and I was fighting a hungry little bee while painting this in a park near home. I loved climbing trees when I was a kid, and this is the kind of huge, solid and safe tree that still makes me want to climb it and sit up there for a whole day in spite of my age.

8 x 12 cm, Lamy Safari, Noodler´s Lexington Grey and watercolours on a small Moleskine Watercolor page.

Turned out very well, I'd say! That's an excellent study. I'm glad someone's having some nice weather; it's been raining all day here. :(

nice tree!

we´ve had great weather too - except for a short shower which was really neccessary after many days of heat.

Nina: Can you do an Every Day in June project, too? :-) I love your posts. I especially love learning from the simplicity of your work. By that I mean that it never looks over-worked, not that it's easy. Also loved the washes on the previous post.

I used Quinacridone gold as yellow, and then different blues, I think it was Cobalt for the lightest shade and Ultramarine, and then Payne´s grey for the darkest spots of green in the shadow. Ultramarine and Burnt Umber for the trunk.

Beautiful tree, Nina. I once enjoyed climbing trees (not too high), and the best were the huge oaks on which one could easily walk along the lower limbs. Maybe the trees didn't enjoy being a playground for children.

Wow, that's a beautiful tree! You never seem to overwork anything and yet there is so much detail (or is that suggestion of detail?)
The only times I tried to climb trees only taught me that I wasn't built to climg trees!

This is just wonderful--a real inspiration. I'm setting a goal right now, to learn how to draw/paint trees. You've set the bar high.

Very nice work, Nina. Shows your maturity of style and savvy when it comes to remembering the right things to do. Pretty greens, convincing shade and shadows.
Look for my report when I return from Colorado on June 8.

So far I haven't been able to paint a presentable tree; they all look like I am in Kindergarten, so kudos! Your tree is beautiful!
